What is the IDC?
The IDC is made up of two components:

Assistant Instructor (AI) Course: Complete this portion and earn the PADI Assistant Instructor qualification.

Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Program: Progress to this stage and you’ll be ready to attend the Instructor Examination (IE), the final step to becoming a fully certified PADI Instructor.
Dive professionals from other organisations may qualify to join the OWSI program directly, recognising their prior teaching experience and fast-tracking their path to becoming a PADI Instructor.
To enroll in the IDC, you must be:

A certified PADI Divemaster (or equivalent)

A certified diver for at least six months
-
Have a minimum of 60 logged dives to start (100 dives to attend the IE)

Hold Emergency First Response (Primary and Secondary Care) certification within the last 24 months

Have a medical clearance signed by a physician within the past 12 months

Be an Emergency First Response Instructor (can be earned during the IDC)

What You Will Learn:
Throughout 11 intensive days, you’ll master everything you need to teach scuba diving safely and effectively, including:

Conducting all PADI core courses and workshops

Organising and presenting classroom, confined water, and open-water sessions

Perfecting skill demonstrations with an emphasis on safety

Public speaking, problem-solving, and student counselling

Risk management and diver safety

Business of Diving, marketing, and dive industry insights

Conducting programs like Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Review, and Discover Local Diving
